FR4/G10 Epoxy Glass Sheet/Tube/Rod

FR4/G10 Epoxy Glass Laminates are high-performance composite insulation materials manufactured by pressing multiple layers of alkali-free glass woven fabric impregnated with epoxy resin under high temperature and pressure. While G10 offers superior mechanical strength and moisture resistance for structural applications, FR4 adds UL94V-0 flame retardant certification, making it the industry standard for high-reliability electrical and electronic insulation. Available in sheets, tubes, and rods with customizable dimensions.

Description

Composition & Manufacturing

Both FR4 and G10 are engineered thermosetting industrial laminates (NEMA LI-1 grades) composed of:
  • Reinforcement: Continuous alkali-free glass fiber cloth (E-glass) providing exceptional mechanical durability

  • Resin System: High-purity epoxy resin binder ensuring chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and superior dielectric properties

  • FR4 Additive: Flame retardant system achieving UL94V-0 self-extinguishing classification

The manufacturing process involves vacuum impregnation of glass fabric with epoxy resin, followed by staged curing at 150-180°C under >5 MPa pressure, producing a dense, void-free composite with extremely low water absorption (≤0.15%)

5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the main difference between G10 and FR4?

A: G10 (EPGC201) provides superior mechanical strength and is ideal for structural applications. FR4 (EPGC202) contains flame retardant additives achieving UL94V-0 certification, making it mandatory for most electrical/electronic applications where fire safety is required. Both share identical base composition and moisture resistance

Q: Can FR4/G10 be used in high-humidity environments?

A: Yes. Both materials exhibit extremely low water absorption (≤0.15% typical) and maintain dielectric strength and insulation resistance even after prolonged exposure to 35°C/90%RH conditions per IEC test methods . This makes them excellent for marine, tropical, and chemical processing applications.

Q: What machining tolerances can you achieve?

A: Standard tolerance is ±0.1mm. For precision applications like test fixtures and aerospace components, we achieve ±0.05mm via CNC milling/routing. Provide CAD files (DXF, STEP) for custom parts. Minimum order quantities apply for custom sizes

Q: Is your FR4 certified to UL94V-0?

A: Yes. Our FR4 grade carries UL94V-0 flame retardant certification and is traceable to batch-specific test reports. This ensures self-extinguishing within 10 seconds with no flaming drips, critical for PCB and electrical cabinet applications

Q: What is the maximum continuous operating temperature?

A: Both G10 and FR4 are rated for F-Class (155°C) continuous operation. Short-term excursions up to 180°C are permissible. For applications above 180°C, consider G11 (EPGC203) or polyimide alternatives. Thermal class B (130°C) is also available

Q: Do you provide samples? What is the lead time?

A: Yes. We provide free samples (up to A4 size) with courier charges to be paid by customer. Samples are prepared within 3 working days. Typical delivery time for bulk orders is 5-20 working days depending on quantity and customization

Q: What bonding adhesives are compatible with FR4/G10?

A: Epoxy-based adhesives provide the best bond strength (>3600N). Cyanoacrylates and structural acrylics also work well. Avoid solvent-based adhesives that may cause swelling. Surface abrasion before bonding is recommended.

Q: Can the material be used in transformer oil?

A: Absolutely. Our laminates maintain excellent dielectric properties in transformer oil at 90±2°C. Dielectric strength perpendicular to laminations exceeds 16 kV/mm in oil immersion tests per IEC 60243
