Phenolic/Bakelite Paper Sheet

Phenolic/Bakelite paper laminated sheets, tubes, and rods are high-performance thermoset insulation materials manufactured from phenolic resin-impregnated paper reinforcements. Offering superior electrical insulation, mechanical strength, and machinability with continuous temperature resistance up to 120°C, these cost-effective components are ideal for electrical panels, transformers, motor insulation, and industrial fixtures.

Description

Phenolic paper laminate (commonly known as Bakelite or 3021 grade) is a thermosetting industrial composite material produced by impregnating bleached wood pulp paper with phenolic resin, then curing under high temperature and pressure. This manufacturing process creates a rigid, dense material with exceptional dielectric properties, dimensional stability, and mechanical strength that will not soften under heat reapplication
Unlike thermoplastics, phenolic laminates permanently cure during manufacturing, resulting in superior heat resistance (120°C continuous), low moisture absorption, and excellent chemical resistance to oils and solvents
. The material is available in three primary forms:
  • Sheets: Flat panels for machining and fabrication
  • Tubes: Hollow cylindrical forms for bushings and insulation sleeves
  • Rods: Solid cylindrical stock for structural components and machining

Material Grades

  • 3021 Grade: Paper-reinforced phenolic laminate for general electrical applications with moderate mechanical strength
  • 3025 Grade: Cotton fabric-reinforced variant for enhanced impact strength and mechanical loading
  • FR Flame Retardant: UL 94 V-0 certified grades for fire-critical applications

Note:The product specifications provided are for reference purposes only. Please refer to the actual product for final specifications. We also offer various sizes and thicknesses to meet your specific needs. For further customization, please contact us.

Note 1: After preconditioning in air at 105 °C +- 5 K for 96 h immediatly before test and transferring immediatly into hot oil.

Note 2: The small-scale laboratory test used in this standard for assingning a flammability category is primarily for monitoring consistency of prodoction of laminates. The results so obtained should not in any circumstances be considered as an overall indication of the potential fire hazards presented by these laminates under actual conditions of use.
